Notes:

  1. When you see ( ), everything in the parentheses should be worked as a set. For example, (1sc, 1dc) 2X, means, “sc, dc, sc, dc”.
  2. When you see a number followed by a stitch, that stitch needs to be worked over that number of stitches. For example, “5sc” means 1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches.
  3. JoinAt the end of each row join with a slip stitch to the first stitch of that row (NOT the beginning chain stitch) to complete the row.
  4. The number in parentheses at the end of each row indicates the total stitch count for that row when completed.
  5. The beginning chain(s) of each row DO NOT count as a stitch.
  6. On rows 5-7 of the bootie, the 1st stitch is skipped, and the last stitch is worked in the join of the previous row. This prevents the finished bootie from twisting out of shape.

Ribbed Cuff Instructions:

With the right side of the bootie facing you, attach yarn in the First stitch of the last row of the bootie. (See photo A.)

  • Size 0-3 months: Ch 15.
  • Sizes 3-6 & 6-12 months: Ch 20.

*You can adjust the height of the cuff by adding/subtracting the number of starting chains.

Row 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, 1sc in each chain across. Work 1 sl st in each of the first 2 stitches of the bootie. (See Photo B.) Do not chain 1, turn.

Row 2: Skip the 2 sl st’s, working in back loops only, 1sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Working in back loops only, 1sc in each sc across. Work 1 sl st in each of the next 2 stitches of the bootie. Do not chain 1, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3, (you will end on a row 2) Continue to instructions for closing the seam.

Closing the Seam:

Cut the yarn leaving a long tail and use a darning needle to sew the seam closed.

OR

I like to close the seam by working a row of slip stitches:

Turn the bootie inside out. Ch1. Hold the 2 edges of the ribbing with the right sides together. Work sl st’s across, going through the bottom of the beginning chain first, and then the back loops of the last row of ribbing (loops furthest away from you). (See Photo C.) To me, this best mimics the look of the ribbing without an obvious seam. But feel free to close the seam however works best for you.

Sew in all yarn ends. Turn the bootie right side out. Fold over the cuff. And you’re done!
