Wrapped Baby Booties Crochet Pattern

Looking for a quick and fun DIY project for those awesome new moms out there? Well, look no further, because these Wrapped Baby Booties are just the ticket!

Seriously, these booties are the ultimate baby shower showstopper. Your pals will be all like, “Whoa, where did you get those?!” And you can just wink and say, “I made ’em myself!”

Guess what? You don’t need to be a crochet wizard to whip up a pair (or even two!) of these cuties. All you need is a bit of yarn and some basic crochet skills, and you’ll have these booties done in a jiffy.

Oh, and did I mention you get not one but two versions to choose from? Yep, you can go with or without the fancy edging—it’s your call! Plus, you can purchase the PDF that includes instructions for four different sizes, so you’re covered whether you’re making them for tiny toes or slightly bigger tiny toes.

Now, here’s the deal: Sometimes, when I’m out and about, I’ll be crocheting like a boss (seriously, I crochet whenever I can, don’t judge!), and folks will come up to me, shaking their heads, saying, “I can crochet a whole blanket, but those baby booties? Nah, too tough for me.” And I gotta tell you, it breaks my heart every time.

But here’s the thing: If you can handle a blanket, you’ve got what it takes to conquer these booties. I promise! So, stick around, and I’ll show you exactly how it’s done. Let’s get crafting! 🧶😄

Materials Used:

  • Worsted weight yarn (4), *I prefer I Love This Yarn, from Hobby Lobby
      • main color (MC), approximately 80 yards for largest size
      • contrasting color (CC), approximately 14 yards for largest size, *if making scalloped edging
  • Crochet hook: Size F (3.75mm) *or size needed to obtain gauge

Top 5 Crochet tools I use everyday.

Gauge:

For this pattern I find it’s easier to make the first 3 rows then measure to determine the correct hook size needed. *See pattern for measurements.

Abbreviations Used:

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

ss = slip stitch

st = stitch

sc2tog = single crochet 2 together

 hdc = half double crochet

 dc = double crochet

 dc2tog = double crochet 2 together

If you are new at reading crochet patterns, here is a great tutorial by the Craft Yarn Council that I highly recommend.

Notes:

  1. When you see ( ), everything in the parentheses should be worked as a set. For example, (1sc, 1dc) 2X, means, “sc, dc, sc, dc”.
  2. When you see a number followed by a stitch, that stitch needs to be worked over that number of stitches. For example, “5sc” means 1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches.
  3. At the end of each row join with a slip stitch to the first stitch (NOT the chain 1) of that row to complete the row. (Unless otherwise instructed.)
  4. The number in parentheses at the end of each row indicates the total stitch count for that row when completed.
  5. The chain 1 at the beginning of the row DOES NOT count as a stitch.
  6. On rows 5-7, the 1st stitch is skipped, and the last stitch is worked in the join of the previous row. This prevents the finished bootie from twisting out of shape.
  7. Patterns for the left and right booties are the same through row 8.

Pattern Size 0-3 Months:

Row 3: Ch 1, 2hdc in first st, 12hdc, 2hdc in each of the next 3 stitches, 12hdc, 2hdc in each of the last 2 stitches. (36)

**After row 3 measure for gauge:

Row 8:  Ch 1, 11sc, sc2tog 2x (mark these 2 stitches), 11sc. (24) Fasten off. Weave in ends.

  • Continue with instructions for the wrapped section.

Wrapped Section

  • Ch 2 at the beginning of the rows does NOT count as a stitch.

Right Bootie:  Attach yarn in the stitch to the RIGHT of the marked front stitches. (See Pic #1.) For the right bootie Row 1 is worked from the inside of the bootie to the outside. (See Pic #2)

Left Bootie:  Attach yarn in the stitch to the LEFT of the marked front stitches. (See Pic #1.) For the left bootie Row 1 is worked from the outside of the bootie to the inside. (See Pic #3)

Row 1: Attach yarn in the stitch indicated above, Ch 12, dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1dc in each of the remaining 9 chains, starting in the same stitch you rejoined the yarn, 22dc. (32 dc total)

  • Remove the stitch markers. (These 2 stitches remain unworked.)

Rows 2-3: Ch 2, turn. 32dc. (32) Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Edging

Right Bootie:  With the outside of the bootie facing you, Attach yarn in the last stitch of Row 3 of the wrap section. (See Pic #4.) Ch 3, 4dc in same stitch, (skip next st, 1sc, skip next st, 5dc in next st) 7X, skip next st, 1sc, skip the last st, (working in the ends of the rows) 5dc in the end of Row 3, 1sc in end of Row 2, 5dc in end of Row 1, skip one st, ss in the 2nd chain space on the bottom of Row 1. (See Pic #5.) (10 scallops total) Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Left Bootie:  With the outside of the bootie facing you, Attach yarn with a ss in the chain space on the bottom of the 2nd dc of Row 1. (See Pic #6.) (Working in the ends of the rows) 5dc in the end of Row 1, sc in the end of Row 2, 5dc in the end of Row 3, (now working along the top of Row 3), (skip next st, 1sc, skip next st, 5dc in next st) 8X. (10 scallops total) Fasten off. Weave in ends.

  • Sew on a button wherever looks good to you. I sew mine to the 5th dc from the end, on Row 1 of the wrap section for the booties with the edging, and to the 5th dc from the end on Row 2 for the booties without the edging. The spaces between the dc’s of Row 2 work as the button holes, making the fit adjustable.

  1. Thank you for you clear, accurate and easy to follow patterns. I have been making your booties and adding a little twist now and then.

  2. I have a question. In the first 8 rows, when you indicate to dc2 together 4x, you mean to combine two stitches, four times, for a total of 8 stitches of the previous row reduced to 4? or to reduce 4 stitches to 2? I’m not ending up with the correct number of stitches per round, and my seam creeps to the side a little more with each round as well.
